I have been here several times during the past few years since 2005 for lunches, dinners, Christmas parties, etc. The food is always finely prepared and delicious. A very good selection of wines from France, Portugal, Spain and Chile amongst others. The staff are knowledgeable and discrete. The bar area is a bit more lively than the dining area and serves a wide range of ales and beers including Old Wallop. The place is below street level. Parking is on the street although with all the restrictions probably easier to use nearby Liverpool Street or Morgate stations.
Good: service, food n wine. Had Peroni and House white. Poor: limited lager type beers, no 3.5% alcohol types. Chairs badly worn, sofa seats sink to floor, had to put 2 cushions under butt, very bad for lower back
Another in the Davy’s Wine Merchants chain - tucked away next to the very busy Red Lion. Descend the steps to a large, well-appointed space.
Although wine is its specialty, this particular bar/restaurant has a much better selection of craft beers and ales than the others in the chain - including their own Old Wallop, served in pewter tankards. The usual Davy’s sandwich offerings plus main courses - all reasonably priced for the area.
Came here on a Friday lunchtime when all the pubs were packed and too boisterous - this place offered space, a more relaxed atmosphere and friendly service. A good find!
PS. Despite being underground with no phone signal, the free WiFi is fast, with no annoying sign-in/registration.
